HILLARYS SCHOOL LIBRARY:

Hillarys Primary School Library was fortunate to be refurbished at the end of 2005 with nearly $50 000 being received under the Commonwealth Investing in our Schools Programme. The money was spent on ten new computers, tables and chairs, all new shelving, carpet, paint and library and computer work stations. This has given the students a new fresh library areas.

Each class visits the library for a 45 minute borrowing session once a week under the instruction of their class teacher. In this time they learn the correct procedures of borrowing and why the books are shelved in different areas. They learn the four different learning areas that include Fiction, Non Fiction, Junior Primary and computer work stations. Classes also come for viewing times including BTN (Behind the news) for the senior students.

The library is the hub of the school with all resources presented to the library before distribution to their classrooms.

We are lucky enough to have some wonderful volunteers that help out with shelving, book covering and other interesting jobs. Book club is run by volunteers from the library. Bonus points are given for each dollar the students spend. These bonus points then buy much needed resources for the library and the school.

If you have a few hours to spare you are welcome to come join us.

The Library is open 4 days a week Monday Tuesday and Thursday Friday. 8:30 – 3:15
